Ammonite’s name comes from the Egyptian god Ammon, or Amun, and was believed to be a symbol of the deity. Ammonite was once thought to be the petrified remains of snakes but is actually the remains of ancient aquatic mollusks or shellfish. Ammonites are a naturally occurring example of the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where each new number is the sum of the previous two numbers. This sequence grows infinitely: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55… and so on. The Fibonacci sequence has many fascinating and amazing properties. Orthoceras is a genus of extinct nautiloid cephalopod. It could be likened to an ancient form of squid with a shell. This genus is sometimes called Orthoceratites. Orthoceras fossils have a global distribution occurring in marine rock especially limestone.
