These labradorite spheres are polished to perfection. Labradorite occurs in mafic igneous rocks and is the feldspar variety most common in basalt and gabbro. It is found in metamorphic amphibolite. Iridescent optical effect comes from silicate streaks, allowing the mineral a refractive index of 1.5.
