Serpentine contains hydrous magnesium iron phyllosilicate minerals from a metamorphism of minerals in ultra-mafic rocks. It has traces of chromium, cobalt, and nickel. These polymorphous minerals have crystal lattice structures. Serpentine had been used for jewelry and hardstone carving.
